More than 15 years after the development of the first version of the FORTRAN RC arch rating program, Dr. Lai has converted the program into a MATHCAD procedure. Same as the FORTRAN program, the strain compatibility method is used to develop the exact P-M strength interaction curves and the ratings are performed automatically. The MATHCAD procedure is more flexible in section and material properties and it can perform load ratings based on both the LFD and LRFD methods. Although some bugs have been identified in the first version of the FORTRAN program, that program has still been used by some consulting firms. Dr. Lai is using the MATHCAD procedure to study the temperature effects on load ratings of RC open-spandrel arch bridges.
